Terry's orange chocolate: round & iconic
There is a persistent rumour in England that one tenth of Brits find the orange-flavoured chocolate ball from Terry's in their Christmas stocking. Traditionally, the British always tap the orange-flavoured chocolate on a hard surface before unwrapping to separate the individual ‘orange slices’. ‘Whack and unwrap’ - “Tap it and unwrap it!” or “Don't tap it, whack it!” are therefore the common marketing slogans that accompany the product. After the short procedure, the orange-textured segments melt deliciously on the tongue.
Terry's Chocolate Orange Milk Chocolate was developed back in 1932 in an art deco factory in York, England, by chemist Joseph Terry. He had originally developed a chocolate apple, but the popular orange quickly overtook the apple and production was finally discontinued in 1954. Today, in addition to the classic orange chocolate, Terry's also offers spin-offs such as Chocolate Orange Bars, Orange Minis, a bag of smaller segments and Orange White Eggs, a white version of the traditional egg-shaped milk chocolate.
