McVities Digestives Original
At the end of the 19th century, the brand name "McVitie & Price" was established in England. It was at this time that the famous Digestive recipe was invented and over time McVities became an international company that has been producing biscuits with dedication for over 100 years.
The biscuits are often eaten with tea or coffee. Sometimes the biscuit is dipped in the tea and eaten quickly as the biscuit, when wet, dissolves.
Digestives are also popular in the preparation of cheesecakes and similar desserts.
McVitie digestive biscuits have become famous among fans of the rock group The Beatles because they were the cause of an argument between George Harrison and John Lennon during a recording session. The incident was recounted by sound engineer Geoff Emerick in his book. According to Emerick, Lennon's wife Yoko Ono was in the recording studio and at one point helped herself to Harrison's box of McVities while the Beatles were in the control room listening to a rendition of the song they had just recorded. Harrison became angry with Ono and his subsequent outburst caused Lennon to lose his temper in response.
